• I found this to be a rather interesting notion. I almost never receive praise for my children. I’m praised for taking care of them because I’m not much older than them. I know some of them are troublemakers, and I never receive praise because of that.

  • I apologize for not making any of the others post anything. We had a little trouble involving Matt, which resulted in a brief disconnect from the internet. I suppose that worked against me, because it forced everyone to stop writing, and as such, has made everyone ignore these blogs. I’ll try to get them to start working again, though school has started for them all, and they’re all busy with homework.

  • This Week

This week, we actually had something rather interesting occur. Luke gave us a kitten that his mother wasn’t allowing him to keep, and the little darling immediately became attached to Shawn, of all people. He was very bothered by this, for some reason, but I found that maybe that was just a front for him. Bug, which is what he named the kitten, is too small to make it up the stairs, and she cries if she isn’t with Shawn. So, when he started to go upstairs, she couldn’t follow and she panicked. Rather than leave her behind, I saw Shawn turn back and pick her up to bring her with him. I’m rather interested to see if Bug is going to offer him some bit of “therapy” that we haven’t been able to give him.

  • Intro

    Hello, everyone.

I just wanted to say first that I’m so proud of everyone for posting their intros. Now, I’ll start my own.

My name is Baron James Kingsly. An old friend of mine, Ben, gave me the name “Shimi”, which means “Bookworm”. Ben was very wrapped up in his own imagination, and through his inspiration, the Hayya was born. Many people in our home town relate the Hayya to a gang, for whatever reason, but they couldn’t be further from the truth. We are simply a family, albeit an odd one. The Hayya came from Ben, and the original members were Ben and Matt. Both of them were surrendered at birth for adoption, and they both made their way to Judith. Ben took on the role of an older brother, as he was about six years older than Matt. To this day, there are only two people Matt will really listen to, the first being Ben, the second being another boy about the same age as Ben and I, Danny, who was adopted two years ago.

I came of age last year, shortly before Judith announced that she could no longer care for us, as she had to attend to other family business, and she did not want us to all fall to the wayside and be ignored. She helped me pull a few strings, and the care of all of the children in the Hayya (at this point, Anny, Matt, Aaron, Elsie, and Wyatt) was transferred to me. Ben moved out a few months before this, as he had come of age before I did.

I vowed to myself that I would open my home to new children, and not just keep it closed to the ones I’d grown up with, so after a few months of caring for them, I put my ear out, looking for any child in need of a second chance, and that is how I came across Shawn. His story was grim. He’d witnessed his own parents murder and had been injured to the point that he was crippled. He’d been hot-headed and prone to confrontations his entire life, and this behavior had grown more and more pronounced of late, probably due to his increasing frustrations with his situation, which was rapidly deteriorating. With medical bills piling up from surgeries, medication, and therapies, and his ever increasingly aggressive attitude, he was fast running out of places to turn to.

I’m not sure what possessed me to want him in my home. I knew that with the money given to me by my parents, I could take care of his physical needs. I had high hopes that somehow the sense of family that was present in the Hayya would be able to soothe his mind, and help to keep him from losing himself to his circumstances. After I heard about Shawn, I cashed in a few favors, made an announcement to the Hayya, and made a trip to retrieve Shawn and bring him home.

It was definitely not what I expected for the first few months. He was tense and exuded this feeling of contempt for us all. Little by little, we somehow started to break through to him. He isn’t quite gushing his feelings at us, but it’s become apparent that he trusts us and considers our home his home. For the time being, I suppose that’s all I can really hope for.

    ~Thank you for reading,
I’ll make sure to keep everyone posted with anything new,

  • Sorry for the delay!

I’m terribly sorry for the delay in everyone making their intro posts. We had a slight issue involving our internet provider going down during a storm, and we just managed to regain internet access. We shall all be traveling tomorrow, but I will try to get everyone to post something tomorrow night, assuming we have access at the hotel. If not, we’ll be home Tuesday evening, and I’ll make them post then.

  • Hello!

Ever since we were all young, we’ve all kept diaries. Lately, I’ve found it difficult to make some of the younger members of this family actually take pen to paper, so I believe that this should help fix that problem. So, as a group project, I’m mandating that everyone in the family write or post something once a week.
